Payment Tracking & Proof of Payment – FAQs

What has changed?

Going forward, our systems will include key payment reference identifiers, depending on the payment rail used. These references allow faster tracking and investigation across banking networks.

The most common references you may see include:

  • IMAD / OMAD – Tracking identifiers for U.S. wire payments (Fedwire)
  • Trace ID – Used for ACH payments in the U.S.
  • UETR (Unique End-to-End Transaction Reference) – The definitive tracking reference for international SWIFT payments

If a reference is available for a transaction, it will now be displayed directly on the Proof of Payment. If no reference exists for a given rail or transaction, no additional field will be shown.

What this means for you

  • Tracking information is visible in the Proof of Payment.
  • Proof of Payment can be extracted as a PDF via API - Get Proof of Payment in PDF
  • Tracking information is accessible in the Merchant Portal - Wallet -> Wallet Details -> Transaction History -> Transaction Details
  • Tracking information is accessible via API - Retrieve Payout

Why don’t I see an MT103 anymore?

The MT103 message format was fully decommissioned by SWIFT in November 2025 and is no longer used for live payment processing. As a result, it should not be treated as proof that a payment has been executed.

Historically, MT103s were often requested out of habit, but they no longer reflect how payments are tracked on modern banking rails.

What should I use instead of an MT103?

For SWIFT payments, the UETR is now the definitive reference. It remains unchanged throughout the entire payment journey and is shared by all banks involved, making it the most reliable way to track and confirm a payment. Thanks to this reference all the banks involved in the payment can get all the details of the transaction, including the sender and sender's bank details.

For U.S. wires and ACH payments, use the IMAD / OMAD or Trace ID shown on the Proof of Payment.

Do I still need to contact Support to get payment references?

No. All available payment tracking references are now included directly on the Proof of Payment and in the Merchant Portal.

This information can also be accessed via API. Please note that the Proof of Payment in PDF format is also retrievable through API.

This removes the need to contact Merchant Support for routine payment investigations.

Where can I find the Proof of Payment?

The Proof of Payment can be downloaded directly from the BVNK platform for each transaction. Once this enhancement is live, any available payment references will appear automatically on the document.

What if a reference is missing?

If no reference is shown, it means the payment rail or partner did not generate one for that transaction. In those cases, there is no additional tracking reference available.
