Understanding the changes to merchant IDs (MIDs) in the new send flow

Overview

With the introduction of the new send flow, the Merchant ID (MID) feature is no longer relevant. Instead of selecting a MID for deposits or withdrawals, you can now select the wallet they want to use for sending or receiving funds.

What has changed?

  • Previously, you could select an MID to associate with a deposit or withdrawal.
  • In the new send flow, this step has been replaced with wallet selection.
  • The system now automatically uses the first MID associated with the selected wallet.

What this means for you

You may notice that transaction details display information about an MID that seems unrelated to the selected contact. This happens because the logic prioritizes the first MID linked to the wallet.

For example: If you choose to pay a contact, but the wallet used is still linked to a specific MID, the transaction details may display the MID associated with the wallet instead of the contact.

How we’re addressing this

To improve clarity and remove confusion, we are:

  1. Updating transaction details:
    • We will clearly display the contact that received or sent the funds in the transaction details.
  2. Phasing out MIDs entirely:
    • Our goal is to eliminate MIDs and ensure merchants rely exclusively on contacts for deposits and withdrawals. BVNK will work with its merchants to make this transition as smooth as possible.

What do you need to do?

You should begin using contacts instead of relying on MIDs. Contacts provide a clearer and more streamlined experience when managing deposits and withdrawals.
